- What is the secret to minimal borrowing?
- Answer: Plan for minimal
borrowing and always think about repayment. If you must borrow,
- Cultivate the mindset that you will begin to pay
back before it is even required—as soon as you earn your first
dollar (e.g., residency);
- Continue to live a missionary lifestyle;
- Deal with delayed gratification ("I owe it to
myself to buy this or that because of the sacrifices and hard work
to get through medical school");
- Learn to give while borrowing (not borrowing to
give, but giving up a necessity in order to give to God). If you
practice these disciplines, you will borrow 40% less than your
classmates and you will be free to answer God’s call on your life
and, in the process, be filled with the joy that serving Him will
bring. You will develop habits that insure financial success
regardless of how much or how little income you earn in your
lifetime.
